On 12 April 2019, UNIDROIT welcomed the second of two groups of students from Strathmore Law School, Nairobi, Kenya.
Around 80 Students were accompanied by the Dean of the Law School, Professor Luis Franceschi and Mr Allan M. Mukuki, Director of International Partnerships.
A group of 6 visiting graduate students from the University of Washington Global Business Programme/UNIDROIT also attended and joined the discussion.
The seminar included a welcome from the Secretary-General, Professor Ignacio Tirado, followed by a series of short presentations on “UNIDROIT’s contribution to International Commercial Law reform and to Sustainable Development Goals”, by the Deputy Secretary General Professor Anna Veneziano, and Legal Officers Mr William Brydie-Watson, Ms Frederique Mestre, and Ms Marina Schneider. The seminar concluded with a round table on the Role of Comparative Commercial Law in International Commercial Law Reform, which featured the Secretary General and the Deputy Secretary General, as well as Professor Scott Schumacher, co-director of the University of Washington Global Business Programme/UNIDROIT.
On this occasion, the Secretary General of UNIDROIT, Professor Ignacio Tirado, and the Dean of the Law School, Professor Luis Franceschi, signed a memorandum of understanding at the end of the seminar.
The agreement establishes a partnership whereby UNIDROIT instruments and projects will be included in the relevant academic programs, featuring also the promotion of our internship opportunities, and the creation of a fellowship scheme.
