On 7 October 2024, Secretary-General Ignacio Tirado met with the Vice Minister of Multilateral Affairs of Colombia, Kandya Obezo Casseres, at San Carlos Palace in Bogotà, as well as representatives from the Directorate of Economic, Social and Environmental Affairs and the Directorate of Cultural Affairs of the Foreign Ministry.
During the meeting the Secretary-General highlighted the importance of the harmonisation of legal frameworks and the advantages of UNIDROIT instruments in Colombia, describing how they facilitate global economic development, facilitate commercial and civil relations, avoid conflicts of laws between different countries, and provide a predictable and efficient legal framework for international transactions. The meeting was an opportunity to reiterate the close ties between the Institute and Colombia, which has been a Member State since 1940 and is a party to the Cape Town Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment as well as the Convention on Stolen or Illicitly Exported Cultural Property.
The visit was carried out within the framework of an event celebrating 30 years of the UNIDROIT Principles on International Commercial Contracts, organised by the Externado University of Colombia.
