Between 23-26 September, Hamza Hameed, Legal Consultant at UNIDROIT, participated at the United Nations/Turkey/APSCO Conference on Space Law and Policy held in Istanbul.
This conference was co-organised by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), Tubitak Space Technologies Research Institute, The Turkish Space Agency, and the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO).
Mr Hameed delivered a presentation highlighting some of the economic benefits which the Space Protocol of the Cape Town Convention would bring to NewSpace economies and commerce in the space industry. This presentation was part of Theme 3: Legal Regime of Outer Space and Global Governance. The panel was moderated by Andrzej Misztal (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Poland), and also included Bernhard Schmidt-Tedd (DLR), Christopher Johnson (Secure World Foundation), Marco Ferrazzani (European Space Agency), George Kyriakopoulos (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic), Steven Freeland (Western Sydney University), Rosa Ma Ramírez de Arellano y Háro (Mexican Space Agency), Reşat Volkan Günel (Yakındoğu University), and Tanja Masson-Zwaan (Leiden University).
