The ICA Expert Group against Theft, Trafficking and Tampering (EGATTT) has invited UNIDROIT to participate in the introductory session of a series of webinars that aim to provide knowledge on the protection of documentary heritage, the strengthening of security measures in cultural institutions and collaboration with law enforcement agencies.
The introductory session, held on Thursday, March 6, 2025, presented the work of EGATTT and the key findings of a recent survey on theft prevention in archives and libraries with special collections. The webinar highlighted the importance of provenance documentation and its role in the application of international regulations, including the 1995 UNIDROIT Convention on Stolen or Illegally Exported Cultural Objects.
This session was moderated by Beth Kilmark, and presentations were made by Arda Scholte (President of the ICA/EGATTT – presentation of the EGATTT and its activities and projects), Eugenio Serrano Rodríguez (Member of the ICA/EGATTT – presentation of the survey carried out on the prevention of theft), Marlene Victoria López Torres (General Archive of the Nation of Mexico/ Member of the ICA/EGATTT – presentation of two cases of restitution of documentary heritage) and Marina Schneider (UNIDROIT – presentation of the relevance of the 1995 Convention for the restitution of documentary heritage).
