Professor Ignacio Tirado, Secretary-General of UNIDROIT, participated in the 21st IADI Asia-Pacific Regional Committee (APRC) Annual Meeting and International Conference. The event, hosted by the Deposit Insurance Corporation of Japan (DICJ), took place from 29 May to 1 June 2023 in Fukuoka, Japan.
Professor Tirado actively participated in Session 1 of the International Conference “Evolving Towards a New Era: Renovating Traditional Tools and Integrating New Approaches by Deposit Insurers,” entitled “Trends and Potential Risks of a New Era: From a Global and Regional Perspective.” In the session, moderated by Mr. Hiro Kuwahara, Executive Director of DICJ and Chairperson of APRC Joint Task Force on Strategic Priorities and Action Plans, Professor Tirado presented on the activities and objectives of UNIDROIT, with a particular focus on the development of non-binding legislation on bank insolvency. Additional presentations were delivered by Ms. Eva Hüpkes, Head of Regulatory and Supervisory Policies at the Financial Stability Board, Mr. Stefan Gannon, Special Adviser to the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (Chair of the Study Group on Resolution of Executives’ Meeting of East Asia-Pacific Central Banks (EMEAP), remotely), and Mr. Bert Van Roosebeke, IADI Senior Policy and Research Advisor.
