On 15 February 2023, the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Space Economy Evolution (SEE) Lab of the SDA Bocconi School of Management.
The MoU was signed at a ceremony in Rome which included participation from UNIDROIT from Professor Ignacio Tirado (Secretary-General), Professor Anna Veneziano (Deputy Secretary-General), and Hamza Hameed (Legal Consultant), and from SEE Lab from Dr Simonetta Di Pippo (Director), Andrea Conconi (Researcher), Clelia Iacomino (Researcher), and Mattia Pianorsi (Researcher). Under the MoU, UNIDROIT and SEE Lab will further explore issues related to space law and finance, with a focus on private sector investment into the space industry globally.
Professor Ignacio Tirado expressed great satisfaction for the signature of the agreement between UNIDROIT and SEE Lab and noted: ”We will strive towards promoting financing mechanisms that spur growth and innovation in the space sector, especially for stakeholders from developing countries and emerging space economies. We look forward to working with SEE Lab to promote UNIDROIT instruments in the space sector, and generally the development of the space economy.’
SEE Lab Director, Dr Simonetta Di Pippo had the following to say after the signing of the MoU: “As per our goal of supporting the space economy evolution, to start a strategic partnership with UNIDROIT is a very significant step. SEE Lab expands its network of economic, technological and political institutions by adding a global excellence in the field of private law. I am sure that the synergies of competencies between SEE Lab and UNIDROIT will be able to advance a series of fundamental discussions, the benefits of which will pervade the space sector globally.”
