On 24 October 2012, at the seat of Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira in Madrid, the Minister for Justice, Mr Alberto Ruiz Gallardón, presented the Principios UNIDROIT sobre los Contratos Comerciales Internacionales, a Spanish translation of the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts 2010 published by the legal publisher LA LEY, a publication sponsored by Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira. Also attending the event were Messrs Emilio Cuatrecasas and Manuel Olivencia, Chair and Vice Chair of Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira, and Professor Alberto Mazzoni and Mr José Angelo Estrella Faria, President and Secretary-General of UNIDROIT respectively. In the course of the presentation the Minister announced that the Principles had been one of the main sources of inspiration of the new Commercial Code which would soon be released and stated that the Preamble to the new Commercial Code would expressly refer to the UNIDROIT Principles. According to Mr. Gallardón, the use of the Principles is a sign of a mature society which, instead of calling on the public powers to act, issues principles that can be used when there are no applicable legal rules.
