International Programme for Law and Development

The UNIDROIT International Programme for Law and Development (IPLD) initiative was developed within the UNIDROIT AcademyThe purpose of its establishment is to promote and disseminate knowledge of the international legal instruments developed and approved under the auspices of the Institute.

The IPLD has been organised thanks to the financial support of the Directorate General for Development Cooperation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The programme is intended for legal and judicial professionals, particularly judges, public lawyers, and experienced legislative drafters. The IPLD aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of UNIDROIT’s legal instruments for the unification of private law. The ultimate objective is to facilitate national use of these tools by participants while simultaneously fostering global collaboration and understanding.

The programme has been structured into various activities, including a course that comprises a two-week series of online seminars, followed by a three-week residential session at UNIDROIT’s headquarters in Rome, Italy. So far, two editions have been held: the first in the 2022 and the second in 2023.

Furthermore, the IPLD seeks to establish a LinkedIn Community forum to nurture an international network of legal professionals committed to advancing law and development by encouraging participants to exchange ideas.
