On 12 June 2023, the first meeting of the HCCH-UNIDROIT Joint Project on Law Applicable to Cross-Border Holdings and Transfers of Digital Assets and Tokens took place at the premises of the Permanent Bureau of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) in The Hague in a hybrid format.
This joint project, which was approved by the Council on General Affairs and Policy (CGAP) of the HCCH, and by the 102nd session of the UNIDROIT Governing Council (10-12 May 2023), will examine the desirability of developing coordinated guidance and the feasibility of a normative framework on the law applicable to cross-border holdings and transfers of digital assets and tokens, covering relevant private law aspects.
The first meeting brought together experts from the UNIDROIT Working Group on Digital Assets and Private Law, as well as subject-matter experts identified for participation in the Joint Project by HCCH, and the two Secretariats to lay the foundation for the preparatory and exploratory work to be conducted over the coming months.
The second meeting for this Joint Project will take place in the autumn of 2023 at the UNIDROIT Headquarters in Rome in hybrid format. Intersessional work will take place to inform the discussion at this second meeting.
A report of the first meeting of the Joint Project will be published in the coming months. Learn more about this project by reading the Project Proposal as presented to the 102nd Session of the UNIDROIT Governing Council.
