First event of the Roma Tre – UNIDROIT Centre for Transnational Commercial Law and International Arbitration

The first event of the newly constituted Roma Tre – UNIDROIT Centre for Transnational Commercial Law and International Arbitration took place at Roma Tre University School of Law, Rome, and online on 25 March 2024. The Roma Tre – UNIDROIT Centre is a joint initiative between Roma Tre University School of law and UNIDROIT, and it is one of the academic institutes established under the auspices of the UNIDROIT Academy.

In addition to a large group of Roma Tre School of Law undergraduate and graduate students, the workshop had 99 registered participants, who attended both in person and online. The topic of the workshop was ‘The Legal Nature of Voluntary Carbon Credits’, in line with the Centre’s objective to support UNIDROIT’s ongoing projects.

Prof Louise Gullifer (University of Cambridge) offered a keynote speech, where she presented the work that was being conducted by UNIDROIT’s Working Group on this subject matter. The legal nature of voluntary carbon credits was further analysed in a roundtable discussion with Prof Filippo Annunziata (Bocconi University), Prof Francesco Mezzanotte (Roma Tre University), and Avv Antonino Zucco (Enel).

The workshop included a lively debate, with questions from participants both in person and online. The Directors of the Centre, Prof Maria Chiara Malaguti (UNIDROIT) and Prof Giacomo Rojas Elgueta (Roma Tre University) offered some introductory and closing remarks.
