Cape Town Convention and Aircraft Protocol – Accession by the Republic of Uganda

On 11 October 2024, Her Excellency, Ms Elizabeth Paula Napeyok, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Uganda in Italy, accompanied by Mr Daniel Ssekabembe, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda, visited UNIDROIT to deposit Uganda’s instruments of accession to the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment and to the Protocol to the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment on Matters specific to Aircraft Equipment. H.E. Ms Napeyok and Mr Ssekabembe were welcomed by Ms Marina Schneider, Principal Legal Officer and Treaties Depositary.

Uganda made declarations under Articles 39(1)(a), 39(1)(b), 40, 53, and 54(2) of the Convention and under Article XXX(1) and (3) of the Aircraft Protocol. The Convention and the Aircraft Protocol will enter into force for the Republic of Uganda on 1 February 2025. The visit to UNIDROIT was also an opportunity to discuss the benefits of other UNIDROIT instruments for Uganda as well as the possible accession of the country to the Organisation.
