UNIDROIT visits Medeniyet University to strengthen cooperation with Turkish academia

On 22 November 2024, Senior Legal Officer William Brydie-Watson visited the law school campus of the Medeniyet University in Istanbul, Türkiye. During the visit, UNIDROIT met with University Rector Professor Gülfettin Çelik and Professor Yusef Çalışkan (Member of the UNIDROIT Governing Council) to discuss strengthening cooperation between UNIDROIT and Medeniyet University. Established in 2010 as the Turkish University for civilisation and culture, Medeniyet University is well positioned to promote academic engagement with UNIDROIT instruments and projects across West Asia, the Middle East and North Africa.

Following the meeting with faculty, Mr Brydie-Watson delivered a Guest Lecture on “the Role of UNIDROIT in Harmonising International Private and Commercial Law and the work of the UNIDROIT Academy” for the faculty of various law schools in Istanbul.
