Building on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between UNIDROIT and the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 2020, UNIDROIT co-organised the HKU Law & UNIDROIT Day with the Faculty of Law of HKU on 6 November 2024 with the support of HKU’s Asian Institute of International Financial Law.
At the beginning of the event, UNIDROIT Deputy Secretary-General Anna Veneziano, Principal Legal Officer Meiling Huang and Senior Legal Officer William Brydie-Watson met with the Dean of the HKU Faculty of Law Professor Hualing Fu, who was joined by Associate Dean Professor Yun Zhao, Associate Professor Giuliano Castellano and other staff members of the faculty, to discuss further opportunities to strengthen cooperation.
The meeting with faculty was followed by a seminar delivered by Deputy Secretary-General Anna Veneziano on “UNIDROIT and the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts: Implications for Hong Kong”. The seminar provided an introduction to UNIDROIT ’s mission, membership and partners worldwide, an overview of its conventions and soft law instruments, and a detailed presentation of the UNIDROIT Principles on International Commercial Contracts (2016). In the second part of the seminar, UNIDROIT Senior Legal Officer William Brydie-Watson provided an overview of the work of the UNIDROIT Academy, with a particular focus on the UNIDROIT Scholarship, Internship and Research Programme.
The event was well-attended by undergraduate and postgraduate students of HKU. The full agenda and recording of UNIDROIT’s seminar at the HKU are available here: https://aiifl.law.hku.hk/hku-law-unidroit-day/.
