UNIDROIT Secretary-General strengthens institutional ties in Hong Kong, China

Between 4 and 8 November 2024, Secretary-General Ignacio Tirado undertook an intensive visitor programme in Hong Kong China, organised by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s Information Services Department.  The programme comprised a series of meetings with the senior management of the Department of Justice, the Judiciary, senior government officials and public bodies of the HKSAR. The Secretary-General met with government departments and agencies with responsibility for law, commercial relations, trade and investment, fintech development and fiscal policy. The Secretary-General also took the opportunity to visit legal organisations with a presence in the HKSAR, including the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Centre. The Secretary-General’s participation in the visitor programme strengthened UNIDROIT’s cooperation with key stakeholders in Hong Kong, which serves as in important legal, trade and financial hub and plays an important role in promoting the work of UNIDROIT in the Asia-Pacific region.
