The call for applications for the 3rd edition of UNIDROIT’s International Law and Development Programme (IPLD) is online! IPLD 2024 will be held from 6 June to 5 July 2024, the first two weeks online and the following three weeks face-to-face at UNIDROIT’s headquarters in Rome, Italy. The initiative, supported by the Directorate General for Development Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, was created to promote and share knowledge of international legal instruments developed and approved by UNIDROIT – International Institute for the Unification of Private Law.
The programme is tailored to legal and judicial professionals, including judges, public advocates, and experienced legislative drafters from African countries. Its main objective is to provide participants with a deep understanding of UNIDROIT’s legal instruments for the unification of private and commercial law, particularly in the context of sustainable development. The idea is to enable participants to effectively implement these tools within their respective jurisdictions, thus promoting international collaboration, improving mutual understanding, and benefiting from qualified technical assistance in these areas.
In addition, the IPLD has launched a LinkedIn community to foster a global network of legal professionals committed to advancement and development. This platform serves as a space where attendees can engage in meaningful discussions, share insights, and collaborate on innovative ideas within legal practice and development initiatives.
“For UNIDROIT, this Programme is a very important step”, said UNIDROIT President Maria Chiara Malaguti, “because it not only brings African countries closer to the activities and tools of the Institute but also allows us to draw on their experience to make those countries more involved in the debate on transnational law. We also hope to create and maintain a network of officials and judges who can discuss and continue to do so in the future on the issues of our agenda and the application of our tools. We must thank the Directorate General for Development Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for its great willingness to finance the Programme, which shows the continuous desire to facilitate development through economic and legal cooperation and dialogue between cultures.”
