We are pleased to announce the launch of the 2025 UNIDROIT Essay Competition, supported by the International Law Institute (ILI) and facilitated by the UNIDROIT Foundation.
This year, the competition will focus on the theme: “A Decade of the UNIDROIT/FAO/IFAD Legal Guide on Contract Farming: Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security in a Changing World.”
Participants are encouraged to explore various aspects of the Legal Guide on Contract Farming, including its impact on agricultural practices and rural development, its role in promoting sustainable agriculture, and its contribution to food security in an evolving global landscape.
Essays should be written in English or French and range between 2,000 and 3,000 words, excluding footnotes and references.
The top five essays will be awarded as follows:
1st Position: €2,500 + Publication opportunities
2nd Position: €1,500 + Publication opportunities
3rd Position: €500 + Publication opportunities
4th and 5th Position: Publication opportunities
Winners will also have the opportunity to present their essays during a dedicated webinar organised to celebrate the competition and its contributions.
The deadline for submission is 11:59 PM CEST on 31 May 2025. Entries must be submitted in PDF format via email to info@unidroitfoundation.org, with the subject line “Essay Competition – [Your Name]”. The file should be named “Essay Competition – [Your Name]”.
Each participant is permitted to submit only one entry. Authors retain full copyright over their work, and UNIDROIT may seek express consent to publish selected essays on its platforms. No revisions or alterations to submitted entries will be accepted.
