The UNIDROIT Secretariat regularly welcomes as interns law students who are either required to carry out an internship with an international organisation as part of their university studies or wish to acquire experience within an organisation such as UNIDROIT. Interns will be given tasks relating to the Institute's current activities (or to its past achievements), depending on their level of experience and degree of familiarity with the subject concerned, and are encouraged to conduct research on their own projects in the UNIDROIT Library.
Post graduate students and Ph.D. candidates (or, exceptionally,
those who are in the process of obtaining a DESS/DEA - degree) who have a special interest in comparative law, international commercial law or private international law are eligible for internships. Applicants must have a good command, both written and spoken, of English and/or French. Graduate translators (English/French) specialised in the legal field (or translators who are in the process of obtaining their degree) may also apply. Priority will be given to applicants who have a particular interest in one (or more) of the topics on UNIDROIT's current Work Programme, including its non-legislative activities.
The organisation welcomes interns for the UNILAW data base. Work is underway on the 1956 Geneva Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road (CMR), but is expected to start soon also on other conventions. Duties include first and foremost the writing of case summaries in English or French, but also the retrieval of cases and bibliographical references and their classification. Samples of both case summaries and bibliographical references may be seen on the site of the data base at www.unidroit.info .
A average internship of three months is recommended. Regrettably UNIDROIT cannot remunerate interns who must moreover have health and personal injury insurance coverage during their stay in Rome.
Requests for internships should be addressed to the Secretary-General of UNIDROIT, Professor Herbert Kronke, and sent to the attention of Ms Laura Tikanvaara l.tikanvaara@unidroit.org specifying the subject of the applicant's research and the precise period of the internship together with a curriculum vitae. There are no internships in August.
